What the report contains
Every EstateMarshal report follows the same structure. Below is the section map, followed by links to a synthetic sample report built from fictional data.
Report sections
- Cover — report title, decedent names (legal, maiden, prior), date of death, prepared-for firm, prepared-on date, case reference, scope statement, and professional-use line.
- Summary — tier counts (A/B/C), total candidates considered, sources searched with automated/manual label and date, and standing line.
- Findings — grouped by state, then by tier (A, B, C). Each hit shows: owner name as listed, city/ZIP, holder, property type, amount (or “Amount not published by state”), flags, evidence sentences, and official claim link.
- Credential-gated checklist — TreasuryHunt, DOL Lost & Found, NAIC Life Insurance Policy Locator, PBGC, HUD/FHA, Social Security, VA, IRS Form 1310, and unpaid final wages. Each with the official URL and what it requires.
- Documents typically required — certified death certificate, letters testamentary or administration, claimant ID, proof of address, and claim form.
- Securities appendix — shown only when any finding involves shares. Explains transfer agents and links to SEC EDGAR.
- Names and variants searched — all names with kind labels, sources with dates, and limitations noted.
- Disclosures — identity block, disclosure line, and the statement that the report states facts and links to official instructions but does not advise on entitlement.
